Residential Group Care
Residential Group Care is at the core of Potter's ministries. This program
is for children ages 6-to 18-years old who are in need of a loving, stable,
structured home environment. The children live in homes on campus with
loving full-time houseparent's in a family setting. They attend local public
schools and churches where most are active in youth groups and school
activities. All children are assigned to a counselor to help them through
significant issues in their lives. Local volunteers generously volunteer
their time and talents to provide educational tutoring for children that
need extra help. The residential group care ministry is designed to offer
children the stability and spiritual guidance they would unlikely receive
otherwise. Referrals to this program are made by families, church leaders,
teachers and anyone who knows a child in need. No fees are ever charged for
these services.
SPARK (Single Parents Alliance
for Raising Kids)
Divorce, desertion and death have left many in our society and in the
church as single parents. They are often under financial and emotional
strain and in need of significant assistance. Our Single Parent Alliance for
Raising Kids (SPARK) ministry meets this great need. This
ministry allows the existing family to stay together during their recovery
as changes are made.
Some single parents have a vocation or skills to continue
supporting themselves and their families, however, many are without
these capabilities. The SPARK ministry allows
single parents to go to school or learn a vocation while maintaining
priority focus on faithfulness to God and their children.
Housing, Christian counseling, and Lifeskills
training classes are provided.
Transitional Living
This ministry is designed to serve young people ages 18 to 23 who have
little or no support from their families. Many of these young people still
need to complete high school. This is especially true of residents who have
arrived from backgrounds of abuse and neglect. For these and other young men
and women who have grown beyond residential group and/or foster care, the
Transitional Living Ministry helps develop financial and social
responsibility. They live with a mentoring family while working, completing
vocational training or attending college, all in an effort to move toward
independence.
Foster Care
As demonstrated in this ministry, God cares for people through people.
Foster care is a temporary family arrangement with couples acting as foster
parents to children in need. Many of these children have emotional and/or
behavioral problems stemming from negative experiences in their family
situation. Children may be referred to Potter through private or public
sources. The goal is always to return the children to their own families
whenever possible.
Christian Counseling
Potter has three on-site counselors who provide counseling to children in
the residential group care and foster care programs. They also offer family
and marital counseling. The goal is always to restore the family unit
whenever possible.
